Welcome to your new SVU Account Setup! 


SVU Provides students and faculty with access to both Microsoft Office and Google Apps suite of applications.


All passwords are synchronized though Microsoft. 


The first step to setting up your account is to visit passwordreset.microsoftonline.com


Type in your email address, which is generally your student issued email (firstname.lastname@svu.edu), then and type in the code to prove you are not a bot and click 'Next'


 

At this point you need to click “I forgot my password” and click 'Next'



Enter your phone number when prompted.




Enter the verification code texted to your phone.




Setup your new password.


Passwords should contain upper case, lower case, numbers and symbols. A scripture is a good example of a possible password, like John 3:4-6 would be an accepted password as it contains symbols, upper and lower case and a space and numbers.


Your password has now been reset. At this point, the password will be automatically synced to your Google account as well using our single sign-on protocol. This will happen immediately and requires no input from your side.


At this point you need to sign into your Google account. Visit google.com and click ‘Sign in’.




Your Email Address is the same account as was used in the first step.



The password will be the same password that was setup with Microsoft in the prior step.



Once you sign in, you will be prompted to enroll in 2-step verification. This step sends a code to your phone every time you sign in from a new device and helps keep your account secure. There is a grace period to set this up, but it is strongly recommended to set this up as soon as possible to avoid being locked out of your account once the grace period ends.



Click ‘Enroll’.

Enter your account password again when prompted.



At this point you will be walked through 2-step verification.



Typically, your phone number will already be populated for you by the school. If this number is incorrect please alert us at the IT Helpdesk by either calling us at (540) 261-8408 or emailing svu.it@svu.edu.

Enter the code that was texted to your device.



Step 3 is a final confirmation you want to use 2-Step Verification. Click ‘Turn on’ to finish the 2-Step Verification enrollment.


 

You should get a message that 2-Step verification is On.


At this point you have completed Setup. You can access your mail by either visiting gmail.com or clicking the gmail app from the menu in the top right. If you forget your password or need to reset it at any point, start at step 1 of this guide and click Forgot password. It's important to reset your passwords from the Office.com site and not from Google, as single sign-on passwords sync from Microsoft to Google but not the other way around.



Textbooks are managed though Akademos, which is also available from the Menu above or by visiting svu.textbookx.com.



To login to my.svu.edu, you will need to login with your student email and password. If you receive an error message upon login, please reach out to the IT department by either calling us at (540) 261-8408 or emailing svu.it@svu.edu.
