Summary

Every student at SVU receives an iPad for use in their classes while they are enrolled in the school. Students who graduate from SVU have their iPads released to them as a gift from the school, but not all students who leave are graduating students. This guide will give students who are transferring to another school or taking a leave of absence instructions on what to do with their iPad bundle before they leave.

Many students transfer schools, take academic breaks, go on missions, etc. If you are planning to take a leave of absence like this, there are several options available concerning your iPad.

Returning Your iPad

The school will require you to return these items:

iPad, Apple pencil, keyboard, and the original charging cable / block.

If you were issued a pair of AirPods during the COVID-19 pandemic you do not need to return them, they are a gift from the school to you.

If all of these items are in good condition when returned, you will not have to pay any additional fees. Please note that if you return your iPad or equipment with the following damages, you will have to pay some fees:

  • Damage to the iPad screen or casing
    • includes water damage, deep scratches, shattering, dents, and bending.

  • Damage to the iPad equipment
    • includes fraying of material on keyboards, dents on the Apple Pencil, and other damage to cords and charging blocks.

  • Defacing of iPad or iPad equipment
    • includes stickers, paints, stains, and other markings.

  • Missing Equipment
    • We charge less for damaged equipment than missing equipment, so please turn in everything you have, even if it is not functional.

Your iPad bundle will be assessed at the time that you turn it in to us. Fees will not be paid to the IT office directly, but to the Student Finance office.

Bringing the iPad to IT

If you have made the decision to return your iPad, you will need to bring it to the IT office.

The IT department at SVU can be found on the basement level of Main Hall.

  • When you come in the front doors of main, cross the foyer and take a left.
  • As you walk down that hall you will see a branching hallway on your left that leads to a white set of stairs with some cobbling on the walls.
  • Follow these stairs into the basement level, and we are the first office on your left.

Our doors are open from 9am-12pm and from 1pm-5pm, but we can guarantee faster service if you put in a service request and set up an appointment with us. To set up a ticket go to https://svu.freshservice.com/support/home and sign in with your school email and password.

If you have already left the campus you may ship your iPad to us in the mail as well. Just make it out to:

SVU IT Office

One University Hill Dr.

Buena Vista, VA 24416

Please package your iPad securely, and make sure to take pictures of your device and equipment before shipping. SVU will not be held liable for shipping fees paid in order to return the iPad bundle or for any damage the iPad receives due to poor packaging or handling of postal services.

Purchasing your iPad

Alternatively you may also purchase your iPad. The price of your iPad, and the equipment it came with, depreciates over time.

When you purchase your iPad you are also purchasing your charger, keyboard, and apple pencil. This iPad will no longer be a part of our remote management system, so the IT office will not be able to assist you in further service to your device once you have purchased it. If you decide to return to the school at a future time, you will be issued another iPad that will be subject to all remote management policies.

If you would like to purchase your iPad, please reach out to us by sending an email to svu.it@svu.edu or signing into our ticketing portal at svu.edu/it and submitting a ticket there. Payments for the iPad will be processed by Student Financial Services. Once the iPad bundle has been paid in full, we will be able to release your iPad to you. We hope that this information has been helpful in making the choice to purchase or return your iPad. Please get in contact with us if you have any further questions.
